Tyler Luse
1. What special considerations did you have to make for the nesting sea turtle sites located on the barrier island?
We put trees around the golf Corse so it will offer some protection to block off people and stray golf balls to interfere with the habitat.
2. What special considerations had to be made when determining a good site for the proposed fishing pier?
We put the fishing pier at the spot that we did because we believed it would be the best spot for people to fish and close to the sea grass area.
3. What could be some of the potential problems that might arise from the proposed golf course? Propose some of the ways in which the impacts can be reduced.
Some problems that might arise from the golf Corse is that some people might hit there golf ball too far and enter the nesting sea turtle site. A way to minimize this might be to put a fence around side of the golf Corse that is fencing the habitat to block off some of the gold balls and stop people to go into that area.
4. What are the economic benefits to the community of Loggerhead County if the development was done with the least amount of environmental impact?
The economic benefits to the community of Loggerhead County are that it would be a nice resort and not have to worry about hurting the ecosystem any more then the little that they already did.
5. Describe three ways in which humans negatively impact coastal ecosystems such as the one you are working on with Loggerhead Barrier Island.
Three ways that humans will negatively impact the coastal ecosystem are that some people might enter the nesting area fore the animals. Another impact that might accrue is that some people might get to close to the restricted areas of the nesting site. Another problem that might accrue is that if something like an oil spill was to happen the entire ecosystem might get destroyed. Another impact that might effect it is all the lights around the area.
6. How can maintaining natural vegetation help us to reduce the damage caused by oceanic events such as hurricanes, tsunami and continued beach erosion?
Maintaining natural vegetation helps reduce the natural damage because to will repel some of it and with hurricanes it helps slow it down.

7. After listening to the other groups make their presentations, were there any ideas they had you would have used if you had though about it before-hand? You should list at least three different ideas and indicate why their idea is actually better for the environment than yours.
Some idea that I wished we thought of before hand is add some places that people can take walks in the environment. Another thing that I wished that we added is that we add more facility’s closer to each other. The last thing that I wished we did was better light restrictions for all the houses and facility’s.

What I found from most of the sand is that almost all of them had a small size to it. The composition from the sands where all different, some had minerals in them, some had rocks in them, and others had biologic materials mixed with them. The ones that where different the most that I found where Hampton sand and Maui’s sand. With the color of them both Hampton had more color of orange, yellow, and white where Maui colors where white. With the magnetite of the two only Maui was magnetic. Hampton size of the sand is medium and the size of Maui’s sand is small. The sorting of both of them was well. The composition for Hampton was mineral and the composition was mostly rocks.

To make the sea floor we had to make playdoh and recreate a section on a map that we where given. After we did that we put graph paper over the box we had and made a graph on the paper. When we where done we had to take sticks and punch through the paper in cretin spots on the graph. We put the stick down in till we felt that it hit some thing then we recorded how far it went down. We put the recordings on a paper and the point of all this was to see if we could know what it look like with out seeing it.

ocean

I learned a lot from the trip we took on Thursday October 3. One of the things that I have learned while on the boat is that plankton is the most important thing in the world. Plankton is important because it is the base of all life and off life eats them. I also learned that during March and June there is the most amount of them in one spot. I also learned that fish need optimal temperature in order to live. When we were on the boat we caught a female lobster and learned the difference between the male and female ones.

oceanography

I took this class because I waned to learn about the ocean. I’m expecting to learn about the ocean and other things like how waves are formed. I’m also looking forward to some of the field trips we might be taking. I now also want to learn about the weather of the sea.
